Cervical Subluxation of the Head & Neck Pain Relief
Chiropractors look at the body differently than ordinary doctors. We assume the body was designed to be healthy, and try to find what is interfering with the healthiest expression of you. Instead of trying to find out what is “wrong” with you, our doctors try to find what is “right” with you. The first place we look is the spine. Experience and anatomy teach us that dysfunction at certain spinal regions (called a vertebral subluxation) correlate strongly with certain conditions. For example, neck pain is not random, it always has a cause, and often manifests itself as cervical pain. Sometimes that cause is damage from a sports injury or a whiplash car accident, and sometimes it may boil down to poor posture.
The most effective head and neck pain relief, otherwise known as cervical pain relief, comes from the resolution of subluxation in the cervical spine.
Cervical Pain Relief
Some common conditions related to subluxations of the cervical spine include:
Poor posture might seem like a minor thing, but this leads to dangerous conditions like spinal degeneration, degenerative joint disease, spinal decay, pinched nerves, the big hump you often see on people’s backs called a dowager’s hump, and nursing home posture. Posture is an excellent way to tell if your cervical spine (neck) and body are doing well or in need of some help.
Neck pain treatment is different in a medical office than in a chiropractic office. While they both take X-Rays, it is not uncommon for a medical doctor to call an X-Ray of the cervical spine ‘normal’ and a chiropractor to look at the very same picture and say there is loss of curve, cervical subluxation, and degeneration of the disc. The confusion here is small but important. While these problems may be common, calling them normal is dangerous because they are not normal or healthy. Most of us understand that heart disease is common, meaning many people have it, but not normal. The medical doctor will typically go on to prescribe pain killers, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), muscle relaxants, physical therapy, or even steroid injections or surgery. These may help the cervical pain, but the underlying problems, the cervical subluxation, remains untreated. This allows the degeneration to progress eventually ending in a worsening of symptoms.
The chiropractor first focuses on correcting the subluxation, then the neck curvature, then empowers the patient to make lifestyle changes that caused the problems. D.C. stands for “Doctor of Chiropractic” but our chiropractors take it to mean “Doctor of Cause.” Cervical pain does not happen without a cause and when we correctly identify that we can begin to make changes resulting in cervical pain relief.
